Percepción de la salud y estado emocional de población adulta mayor de zonas urbano-marginales de Loja. Un estudio exploratorio

RESUMEN
Objetivo: Explorar la autopercepción del estado de salud y la salud mental en adultos mayores residentes en zonas urbano-marginales de la ciudad de Loja, Ecuador. Metodología: Se realizó un estudio cuantitativo, observacional y exploratorio, siguiendo las directrices STROBE. La muestra estuvo conformada por 109 adultos mayores de 65 años, seleccionados mediante muestreo no probabilístico tipo bola de nieve. Se aplicaron cuestionarios sociodemográficos, un instrumento para la percepción de salud y la Escala de Depresión Geriátrica de Yesavage validada en Ecuador. El análisis de datos se efectuó con el software Jamovi, empleando estadística descriptiva. Resultados: La población tuvo una edad promedio de 72,5 años; el 57,8% fueron mujeres y el 54,1% presentó nivel de escolaridad primaria. El 49,5% percibió su salud como regular y el 38,5% como buena. El 77,1% se consideró funcionalmente independiente. Sin embargo, el 50,4% presentó hipertensión grado II. En cuanto a salud mental, el 98,2% no mostró depresión y el 1,8% evidenció probable depresión. Los casos de probable depresión se concentraron en personas con percepción de salud regular o mala. Conclusiones: Los adultos mayores de zonas urbano-marginales de Loja tienden a percibir su salud como regular, a pesar de la alta prevalencia de factores de riesgo cardiovascular. La percepción subjetiva de salud se asoció con el estado emocional, lo que resalta su utilidad como herramienta de tamizaje temprano en salud mental. Se recomienda fortalecer estrategias de atención primaria, educación en salud y seguimiento comunitario.
